Node.jsĀ® is a free, open-source, cross-platform JavaScript runtime environment that lets developers create servers, web apps, command line tools and scripts. To manage NVM on Linux we recommend using Node Version Manager as it allows you to quickly install and use different versions of node via the command line.
How to Install
There are conventional methods to install Node.js on Linux using default package managers. However, these often install older LTS versions of Node.js and can be painful to uninstall or change. So we recommend Node Version Manager (NVM). To install NVM use the below command.
sudo apt update
wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvm-sh/nvm/v0.40.1/install.sh | bash
This command will install and execute the install script for NVM.
NVM Usage
Here are some common commands for NVM that can be used. For more advanced usage see the NVM GitHub.
View NVM Version
nvm -v
Install a Node Version. Change the version as you desire.
nvm install 20.17.0
You can replace the version with node to install the latest Node.js version.
